This is a classic Call of Cthulhu mystery about secrets, investigation, forbidden knowledge, and mounting dread. You’ll step into the shoes of ordinary people drawn into an extraordinary and deeply unsettling situation, where every clue brings you closer to something that should never have been disturbed.

Intro: Something is wrong. A strange disappearance. An unexplained death. A peculiar discovery. A story that doesn’t quite add up.

Whatever draws your investigator into the mystery, one thing is certain: the further you look, the less certain the world becomes.

Call of Cthulhu is a tabletop roleplaying game of investigation, mystery and cosmic horror. You’ll search for clues, question witnesses, explore unfamiliar places and piece together the truth behind events that may defy rational explanation.

You aren’t a superhero. You don’t have unlimited resources, supernatural powers or guaranteed plot armour. Sometimes the most important decision you’ll make is whether to keep investigating - or walk away.

Because there are some things that mankind was never meant to understand.

And some mysteries have a cost.

Call of Cthulhu is a horror game and can contain mature, disturbing or unsettling themes.

Depending on the scenario, this may include:
* Death, murder and serious injury
* Violence and threats of violence
* Horror and frightening situations
* Occult practices, rituals and cults
* Supernatural and cosmic horror
* Disturbing creatures and body horror
* Mental distress and psychological horror
* Illness, grief and tragedy
* References to suicide or other difficult subjects

Not every game will contain all of these themes and specific scenario warnings will be provided where appropriate.

HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Many Call of Cthulhu games are set during the early twentieth century. The period contained attitudes, laws and social structures that differ significantly from those of today.

The game is also inspired by the fiction of H. P. Lovecraft, whose work contains racist and xenophobic ideas. These aspects of his writing are acknowledged as part of its historical context, but they are not required in order to tell an effective horror story.

AT THE TABLE

The aim is to create unsettling, atmospheric horror - not genuine discomfort.

If a subject becomes too much for someone, the game can pause, a scene can be altered or skipped, or something can simply fade to black. Players are never expected to engage with a theme that crosses a personal boundary.
